“The year of celebration in 2021 directs our gaze to a very long history of Jews on the territory of today’s Germany: to a coexistence with light and shadow. The shadows, which are associated with much suffering for people of the Mosaic faith, must continue to be addressed, and the light, which also provides hope for the future, must be made visible. Then all people in Germany will be able to glean insights for themselves from this important year of celebration. I look forward to it.”
