Over the centuries, Jewish citizens have played a central role in our philosophy, science, economy, and art. Their legacy shapes our identity and culture. This Year of Celebration is an opportunity to learn more about the wealth and long tradition of Jewish culture in Germany. I am greatly anticipating this Year of Celebration and hope that as many people as possible will join in the festivities, with openness, appreciation, and sympathy.”
